Everything you need to know about the next Volkswagen Golf GTI

After unveiling the next generation of the Golf last fall, Volkswagen recently unveiled the next GTI variant, and our mouths are already watering! Here's what you need to know about it.

An evocative design

Without denying the design of the previous generations of the Golf, this new version is more modern with a sleeker line than ever and stretched headlights that give the car a more aggressive look. The GTI adopts the traditional red line that transcends the front grille, as well as its own wheels and highly original fog lights (optional) positioned to form an "X" at both ends of the front fascia.

Inside, the cabin is much sleeker than before, with most of the physical buttons disappearing in favour of a 10-inch touch screen. Behind the wheel, the new-generation Golf GTI is also available with Volkswagen's digital cockpit, an all-digital screen that can be configured according to your preferences.

More power

Under the hood, this new generation Volkswagen Golf GTI will use a 2.0-litre turbocharged four-cylinder engine. Its power output has yet to be confirmed for the North American market, but it's safe to say that it will be greater than the 228 horsepower of the current Golf GTI.

The next-generation Golf GTI is expected to arrive in North America next year.
